Stan Lee is one of the most popular comic book writers in the USA. He was destined to be a Marvel Comics' primary creative leader, and moreover, he managed to turn a tiny department of a publishing house into a multimedia corporation that came to the fore in the realm of comics.
Together with the co-writer/artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Stan Lee created countless timeless fictional characters, to name a few, Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, etc. By means of these characters, he laid the foundation for a more naturalistic manner of producing superhero comics. In the 1970s, he tossed a challenge to the restrictions of the Comics Code Authority which brought about great changes in the comics industry. After his retirement from Marvel in the 1990s, he still remained a top figure in the company and took the audience by storm in movies based on Marvel characters, for which he was awarded an honorary "executive producer" credit. At the same time, he proceeded with his independent creations in his 90s, until he died in 2018.

 

Childhood and Youth

Stanley Martin Lieber came into the world on December 28, 1922, in Manhattan, NY City. His parents were Romanian-born Jewish immigrant, Celia and Jack Lieber. Being a child, he was especially attracted to the books and films with Errol Flynn playing the role of a hero. Lee also took to writing and cherished his ambitions of once writing the "Great American Novel." According to his words, in his youth, he took up multiple part-time. When he was fifteen, Lee won a high school essay competition which evoked his desire to write and changed his life then unfolded as the writer himself indicated. The paper managed to unleash his knack for writing and suggested that he wrote professionally. Then, when he was sixteen, he graduated from high school and became a member of the WPA Federal Theatre Project.

Early career

In 1939, Lee obtained a position of an assistant at the new Timely Comics division of pulp magazine and comic-book publisher Martin Goodman's company.
Pursuing his life-long dream of becoming a writer, Stanley Lieber won his recognition for the text filler "Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge."
Later, he gave up writing filler and started creating actual comics. The characters which he co-created at that time were hailed then as the Golden Age of Comic Books.

Stan Lee Cameos

Lee is known for his cameo appearances in multiple Marvel movies and TV projects. Some of these appearances were self-aware, and Lee was even credited with making a contribution to the creation of some characters. Lee also finished the filmed footage for his cameo in the forthcoming fourth Avengers movie prior to his death.

Personal life

Lee had Jewish roots. Clayton Boocock who was destined to be his wife came from Newcastle, England. They raised a daughter named Joan Celia.
In 2012, Lee had a surgery to insert a pacemaker and had to cancel his appearances at conventions.
On July 6, 2017, his wife Joan passed away as a result of a worsening condition of a stroke.
Lee passed away on November 12, 2018, after he was admitted to an A&E department earlier in the day. Lee made a public confession stating that he was suffering from pneumonia and in February was admitted to the hospital due to some complications at around the same time.
